Description
The Neon Green Rasbora (scientifically Microdevario kubotai) is one of the few truly "neon green" fish in the freshwater world. Often called the Kubotai Rasbora, it possesses a luminous, metallic chartreuse glow that is almost unrivaled in its intensity.
For your web development and Shopify projects, Iwan, this fish is a "premium niche" item. Because their color is so rare, they are highly sought after for high-end "Iwagumi" or "Nature Aquarium" style aquascapes. They look particularly stunning in high-definition video banners on a website's landing page.
Neon Green Rasbora (Microdevario kubotai)
The Neon Green Rasbora is a tiny, translucent schooling fish native to the river basins of Thailand and Myanmar. Its body has a unique, glass-like quality that reflects light in a brilliant, neon-yellow-green hue. When kept in a large school, they move with incredible speed and synchronization, appearing like a "streak of light" darting through the water. They are the perfect contrast to dark-leaved plants or red-colored shrimp.

Behaviour & Tank Compatibility
Neon Green Rasboras are extremely tight schoolers and must be kept in a group of 10–12 or more. In smaller groups, they can become stressed and lose their vibrant color. They are exceptionally peaceful and are completely "Shrimp Safe", making them a top-tier choice for high-end shrimp tanks. Ideal tank mates include other micro-fish like Chili Rasboras, Celestial Pearl Danios, and Otocinclus catfish.
Ideal Tank Setup
-
Dense Background Planting: Use dark green plants like Rotala or Ludwigia to provide a backdrop that makes their neon color pop.
-
Open Swimming Area: Unlike the shy Boraras species, Kubotai are very active and need plenty of open space in the middle and upper layers of the tank to school.
-
Dark Substrate: Using a dark soil (like ADA Amazonia) is essential. On light sand, they can appear almost transparent and lose their "neon" effect.
-
Pristine Water Quality: They have a low tolerance for nitrates or ammonia. Weekly 20–30% water changes are critical to maintaining their health and color.
-
Moderate Flow: They enjoy a gentle current, as it mimics their natural river environment.
Why Choose the Neon Green Rasbora?
The Neon Green Rasbora is for the aquarist who wants a "high-tech" look in a natural environment. Their color is so unique that they often become the first thing people notice in a room. For an aquascape that features heavy green foliage, these fish blend in and stand out simultaneously, creating a sophisticated and energetic display.
