Seachem Flourish Nitrogen 2L
Seachem Flourish Nitrogen is a concentrated (15,000 mg/L) blend of nitrogen sources, supplying both nitrate and the plant-preferred ammonium form. The ammonium is safely complexed, ensuring no free ammonia is released into the aquarium. This formula also provides nitrate for species that readily utilise it. For best results, use together with Flourish Phosphorus and Flourish Potassium.
Why It's Different
Unlike many competing fertilisers, Flourish Nitrogen is completely phosphorus-free, allowing you to raise nitrogen levels without altering phosphorus balance.
Directions
Beginner
Dose 2.5 mL (half a cap) per 160 L twice weekly, or as required in response to nitrogen deficiency symptoms such as slow growth or chlorosis. Each cap thread equals approximately 1 mL.
Expert
The beginner dose increases nitrogen by the same amount as 1 mg/L nitrate. This supports approximately 4 g dry mass (20 g hydrated) plant growth over one month, assuming all other nutrients are present. Increase dosage proportionally for faster growth.
Target Dosing Formula
To calculate a specific nitrogen increase, use the formula:
0.25 × v × n = m
where:
- v = tank volume in gallons
- n = desired nitrogen increase (mg/L)
- m = mL of product required
If using a “nitrate equivalent” for nitrogen, use 0.05 instead of 0.25.
Example: To raise 20 gallons by 0.20 mg/L nitrogen:
0.25 × 20 × 0.20 = 1 mL
Because half of the nitrogen in Flourish Nitrogen comes from nitrate, you can approximate nitrogen levels by doubling your nitrate reading. For precise measurements, use Seachem MultiTest: Total Nitrogen, which differentiates between nitrate, ammonia, and organic nitrogen.
