K1 Moving Bed Technology

Moving bed media has many advantages over traditional static bed filters. The large surface area is constantly exposed to oxygen and nutrients, the media self-cleans as it tumbles, and the world-famous protected surface area enables bacteria and higher organisms to dwell safely inside the media, exposed to oxygen and food but safe from harmful cleaning practices.

Over the last twenty years, moving bed technology has become standard in pond filters. Evolution Aqua pioneered this approach and has conducted more research and development into this area of biological filtration than anyone else. Nexus and Eazy Pod filters use K1 and K1 Micro exclusively, all designed and manufactured in the UK.

How to Calculate Media Requirements

In a moving bed chamber, fill no more than 25% of the chamber with K1 media. This allows enough water to properly fluidise the media and maintain optimal filtration performance.
