Unlike many of its cousins, the Apistogramma borellii is exceptionally docile. They are shy, gentle fish that do best in quiet community tanks. They pair well with peaceful tank mates such as Neon Tetras, Harlequin Rasboras, and Pygmy Corydoras. While they are territorial during spawning, their "aggression" is mostly posturing and rarely results in harm to other fish.
