Description
Lemonpeel Angelfish (Centropyge flavissima)
The Lemonpeel Angelfish is widely regarded as one of the most stunning members of the Centropyge genus. It is characterized by a uniform, glowing neon-yellow body that is brilliantly contrasted by electric blue rings around the eyes and blue edging on the gill covers and fins. While it looks very similar to the Herald’s Angelfish, these blue accents and its slightly more delicate nature set it apart as a premium "jewel" of the reef.

Behaviour & Tank Compatibility
The Lemonpeel Angelfish is an active, inquisitive species that requires a well-established aquarium. It is known to be more aggressive than other dwarf angels, often chasing fish with similar shapes or colors. It is considered "high risk" in reef tanks; it is notorious for nipping at large polyp stony (LPS) corals, zoanthids, and clam mantles. It is best kept with semi-aggressive tank mates that can hold their own, such as Tangs, larger Wrasses, and Damselfish.
Ideal Tank Setup
-
An established aquarium with significant natural algae growth to satisfy their constant grazing needs
-
Ample live rock with complex structures, caves, and overhangs to provide security and territorial boundaries
-
High water quality and stable parameters, as they are more sensitive to environmental stress than other Centropyge species
-
Open swimming space combined with vertical rockwork to allow for natural exploration
Why Choose the Lemonpeel Angelfish?
The Lemonpeel Angelfish is for the aquarist who wants a high-impact, high-contrast specimen. Its "blue-on-yellow" color palette is one of the most striking combinations in the marine world. While they require a more experienced hand to manage their dietary needs and territorial behavior, their vibrant personality and neon presence make them a definitive centerpiece for any advanced marine or fish-only system.
