Goniastrea:

Quick Stats:

-          Lighting: Low to Medium

-          Flow: Moderate

-          Placement: Bottom to Middle

-          Feeding: Photosynthetic but accepts small foods

-          Aggressiveness: Aggressive

Characteristics:  Goniastrea have a similar appearance to favia, with one of the only visible distinctions being the lack of a wall separating the coralites. They are sometimes known as the moon coral.

Colour: Goniastrea mostly come in teal, maroon and very fluorescent green colours. They sometimes come in solid colours, while other times they come mottled or two toned.

Lighting: Goniastrea have a preference for low to medium lighting from around 50 – 150 PAR.

Flow: Goniastrea appreciates low to medium flow. Enough flow to keep detritus and debris from getting stuck in their crater like polyps.

Placement: Most specimens can be placed on the substrate, as long as they don’t get covered by sand. They can also be placed on the rockwork towards the middle or bottom of the tank.  Make sure to leave a decent amount of space between them and other corals as they can send out sweeper tentacles which can harm other corals.
